Carmel Catholic robotics team qualifies for state tournament

Carmel Catholic High School's Varsity Robotics team, Not Your Average Nerds, recently competed in the FIRST Tech Challenge regional tournament, making it to the finals and earning a place at the Illinois State Championship Tournament Feb. 23-24.

NYAN Robotics enters the state competition as the number one team in Illinois, holding seven of the top 10 scores in the state this season. Following their state-qualifying tournament, the team is ranked No. 15 in the world.

NYAN is a third-year team competing in the FTC competition. Teams are challenged to design, build, program, and test a robot to prepare for competition. During this process, the team learns important skills based in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics).

The team is hoping to apply what they have learned throughout the season to perform well at the Illinois State Championship Tournament at Elgin Community College in Elgin. Learn more about the state tournament at firstillinoisrobotics.org/ftc.

NYAN's mission is to not only enhance their own STEM skills, but to also foster an interest in robotics within the community and at their school.
