George Weber Announces Candidacy for Illinois 14th Congressional District Seat in 2018

Lakewood, Illinois - George Weber has declared his candidacy for the Illinois 14th Congressional District seat in the 2018 election. He is running as a Democrat with the goal of unseating Randy Hultgren. The following is a summary of his philosophy and policies.

The United States is still the greatest country in the world, but the middle class is struggling as it never has in decades. We also face other major problems that are going unresolved. To solve these, we need smart change in which policy decisions are based on facts, integrity and non-extremist thinking to bring fairness and balance back to the system and prosperity back to the middle class.

For decades, employees and shareholders have benefited evenly from company earnings. This is one of the main reasons why the middle class flourished in the late twentieth century. Over the past two decades that balance has shifted in favor of the shareholders. In order for our society to thrive everyone needs to share in the benefits from our increasing productivity. At the same time, we need to educate people on the need for individual responsibility along with the positive aspects and means of achieving a productive and successful life.

And the problems that this country is facing: access to good jobs, an inferior and expensive healthcare system, climate change, and a growing federal debt are easily solvable if we pursue fact-based solutions, which we are not now doing. After all, the most talented workforce in the world is right here in the U.S. to help us accomplish this.

On the jobs front, there are approximately 6 million unfilled jobs in this country. As a first step, we need to provide more vocational training such as they do in Europe. Regarding the environment, we have the best technical experts in the world - allow them to implement clean energy which is now cost competitive to fossil fuels. The federal debt was about as large relative to GDP after World War II as it is now and we solved that - we can do the same now. And regarding health care, we need to duplicate the best of what the other developed countries such as the Canadians and Europeans are already doing, since their systems are all better than ours and have a cost per person of about half of what ours is. I will lead the fight against the closed-minded representatives in Washington that are holding back our progress.

George Weber is a recently retired chemical engineer who has spent his career solving problems, creating things that work, making things more efficient, and getting things done. We need to change the direction that this country is heading in by doing things that make sense. George has the passion, knowledge and ability to do just that.

George has been married to his wife Beth, who is a middle school math teacher, for 33 years and they have three grown children. My motivation to run for the House seat in the 14th Congressional District of Illinois, where my family has lived since 2008, is that I do not want our children and their generation to grow up in a world where there is no middle class, where the government is broke, and where the environment of the planet is being destroyed. I feel I have been very fortunate in my life and career and like many of you, I feel that something needs to be done to change what is going on. We need to return to the principles that made us great for almost 250 years - trust in God, integrity, responsibility, common sense, and compassion.
