Boy Scout Troop #33 Leads Downtown Beautification Efforts

West Chicago Boy Scout Troop #33 took the lead with downtown beautification efforts again this year planting a wide assortment of colorful annuals and perennials in the beds lining Main Street. The resulting display will be enjoyed by residents and visitors who frequent downtown for special events like Family Art Nights and featured artist exhibits at Gallery 200, programs offered by the City Museum, Gallery Theater performances or the 2017 Art Banner Walking Tour and Historic Museum Walking Tour.

"We're very grateful for the volunteer participation of the Boy Scouts here in West Chicago. Their efforts not only help beautify the Downtown area for the summer season, but also are indicative of the community-building that goes on in West Chicago every day," commented Director of Community Development John Said who coordinated the Scouts' participation.

The Scouts have had a long and proud tradition of service to the community and have participated in the downtown planting for several years. Their record of service and leadership was acknowledged by Mayor Ruben Pineda in his 2017 State of the City Address earlier this year following the Scout's opening flag ceremony at the Address. "Thank you also for your continued support of our community throughout the year, whether it be opening ceremonies at special events, planting spring flowers downtown or lending a hand raking the leaves of our seniors. We can always count on our Scouts to answer the call and come prepared to serve."
