Respecting Privacy, Safeguarding Data, Enabling Trust Focus of January 19 National Data Privacy Day Event At LifeWorking Coworking

LAKE FOREST - National Data Privacy Day, an international effort held annually to create awareness about the importance of respecting privacy, safeguarding data, and enabling trust, will be supported with a presentation January 19 at 5:30 p.m. at LifeWorking Coworking, 717 N. Forest Ave., Lake Forest.

"We are creating greater awareness of the importance of privacy, presenting easy ways to protect personal information, and reminding organizations that privacy is good for business," said Michael Edelberg, co-founder and CDO of Viable Operations and Bespoke Digital Solutions, Lake Forest.

The companies joined the National Cyber Security Alliance as a Champion to support National Data Privacy Day in recognition and support of the principle that organizations, businesses, and government all share the responsibility of being conscientious stewards of personal information. National Data Privacy Day is January 28.

"A multilayered approach to cybersecurity works best. It's not just hardware or software, the cornerstone of this approach is awareness and education," said Edelberg.

Viable Operations has joined the growing global effort among nonprofits, academic institutions, corporations, government entities, municipalities, and individuals to raise awareness at home, at work, and in their communities. Through collaboration and unified, consistent messaging about data privacy, all National Data Privacy Day Champions are working toward the common goal of improving individual and business consciousness toward respecting privacy, safeguarding data and enabling trust.

Edelberg thanked Steve Whittington, founder and CEO of LifeWorking Coworking, and his team, for hosting such an important event, "not only for his members, but for the broader community as truly everyone is on the front line when it comes to data privacy and infosec (information security) threats. Events of this nature are a perfect fit for LifeWorking Coworking's high-tech, collaborative space, enabling us to reach a diverse audience at difference points along the "'digital spectrum'."

In North America, the National Data Privacy Day initiative is officially led by the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA), a nonprofit, public-private partnership dedicated to promoting a safer, more secure and more trusted internet.

About National Data Privacy Day

National Data Privacy Day began in the United States and Canada in January 2008 as an extension of the Data Protection Day celebration in Europe. Data Protection Day commemorates the Jan. 28, 1981, signing of Convention 108, the first legally binding international treaty dealing with privacy and data protection. The National Cyber Security Alliance, the nation's leading nonprofit, public-private partnership promoting cybersecurity and privacy education and awareness, leads the effort in North America. The National Data Privacy Day initiative is made possible by generous support from our sponsors and is advised by a distinguished advisory committee of privacy professionals.
