Glenbard to host 3 programs Oct. 22: SAT information, FAFSA assistance, positive discipline

The Glenbard Parent Series: (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families will host three special events on Saturday, Oct. 22, at Glenbard East High School, 1014 S. Main St. in Lombard.

The New SAT College Admission Test: What You Need to Know will be presented from 10:30 a.m. to noon with Effi Rouse, K-12 director at College Board, and Jeff Feucht, Glenbard District 87 assistant superintendent for educational services. The SAT has replaced the ACT as the college entrance exam to be given in the Glenbard schools and throughout Illinois. The SAT measures college and career readiness skills and is closely aligned to the high school curriculum. The SAT exam has undergone major changes, including what will be tested and how the exam will be scored. Juniors, sophomores and freshmen and their parents will want to attend to best prepare for the revised SAT.

Due to the earlier deadline for filing this year's FAFSA, high school seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend the FAFSA financial aid completion workshop on Oct. 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Glenbard East's computer lab. Families will receive one-on-one assistance filing the FAFSA financial aid form online from financial aid specialists at the Illinois Assistance Corps. Please bring the following necessary documentation: 2015 Federal tax returns, 2015 W2 forms and record of untaxed income and investment/asset /business value. Assistance will be available in Spanish and English.

Also on Oct. 22, psychologist Ferney Ramirez will present Positive Discipline Equals School Success in Spanish from 10:30 a.m. to noon. What kind of discipline is most conducive to learning and success in life? Parents will learn how to parent with empathy and set healthy limits to positively influence their children's attitudes and choices.

CPDUs are available.
