Recycling event at Benedictine accepts tired electronics, worn-out computers
Recycling reduces the need to consume natural resources by facilitating the conversion of used materials - such as old computer parts and other electronics - into new products.
The Village of Lisle, DuPage County, School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education (SCARCE), and Benedictine University encourage area residents to bring their electronics and other waste items to "Sustainable Saturday in Lisle" from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, in the parking lot adjacent to the Dan and Ada Rice Center on the Benedictine campus.
To facilitate better traffic flow, cars must enter campus at the traffic light off College Road (south of Maple Avenue), proceed north to the recycling site, and exit onto College Avenue north and east of the Rice Center lot.
Items accepted include computers, monitors (no cathode ray tube monitors will be accepted), flat-screen televisions only (no cathode ray tube, projection screen or console TVs will be accepted), printers and copy/fax machines, cellphones and telephones, VCRs and DVD players, small electronics, records, DVDs, stereos and video games, inkjet cartridges, and rechargeable and household batteries.
Also acceptable are car, boat and sump pump batteries, scrap metal (including washers, dryers, stoves, swing sets, pots, pans, lawn furniture, garden tools and tomato cages), fluorescent light bulbs (both compact fluorescent lights and tubes), used cooking oil (in closed containers), bicycles, bike parts and helmets, eyeglasses and hearing aids, books, worn American flags, musical instruments and sheet music.
Other items that will be accepted include old keys, yarn, buttons and rulers, good medical equipment (crutches, walkers, canes), documents (no rubber bands or plastic, limit two file-size paper boxes or three paper shopping bags per vehicle), Goodwill items (clothes, shoes, sporting goods, furniture, etc.), reusable building hardware/supplies in good condition (cabinets, tools, doors, plumbing, lighting fixtures, etc. No masonry).
No hazardous waste (paint, motor oil, air conditioners or refrigerators) will be accepted.
Benedictine University is located at the corner of Maple Avenue and College Road in Lisle.
