Glenbard Parent Series to host Empowering Students to Celebrate Their Learning Differences

The Glenbard Parent Series: (GPS) Navigating Healthy Families will present Learning Outside the Lines: the Tools for Academic Success: Empowering Students to Celebrate Their Learning Differences with Jonathan Mooney on Thursday, March 3.

What allows one person to soar intellectually, while another struggles? What are the lines that measure who will succeed and who will just get by? Is your child outside the norm because he learns differently? According to Mooney, there's no such thing as normal and that to really live, every person must find their own special way of keeping on.

This free event will begin at 7 p.m. March 3 in the auditorium at Glenbard West High School, 670 Crescent Blvd. in Glen Ellyn.

Labeled "dyslexic and profoundly learning disabled," Mooney did not learn to read until he was 12 years old. Despite his early struggles, Mooney went on to graduate with honors from Brown University and has established himself as a leader in learning disabled/attention deficit hyperactivity disorder disabilities and alternative education through his activism and published works.

With heart, humor and easy-to-follow strategies, Mooney will share his inspiring and painful journey, which motivates students to persevere and take control of their education to find true success.

CPDUs are available for education professionals.
