Believe Project: $100 to help someone who always helps others

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Marion Roberts of Winfield.

Here is an excerpt of the pitch:

"Lazaro, 19, is intellectually disabled, but that does not stop him from helping others in West Chicago. Lazaro's volunteer duties include contributing time at the West Chicago Elementary District 33 administrative offices, where he does copying duties, and at the Northern Illinois Food Bank, where he packs meals and cleans vegetables for needy families.

"At the Early Learning Center, Lazaro folds blankets for the preschool children and does copying duties as well.

"Lazaro is presently enrolled in the Transition Program at West Chicago High School. The high school wrestling coach, Bill Dragonetti, calls Lazaro his 'assistant coach.' His responsibilities as team 'helper' include cleaning the wrestling mats as well as helping with the athletic equipment.

"Lazaro's family lives on a limited income and when asked what Lazaro would like for Christmas, he responded he has been saving his money for more than a year to buy a special video game. Being able to offer Lazaro $100 from the Believe Project would not only add to his saving's goal, it would offer Lazaro the recognition he deserves because of the choices he has made, in spite of his disability, to help others in whatever way he can."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else.
