Believe Project: $100 to help former student with leukemia

Today's winner of a $100 bill through the Believe Project is Ellen Neiweem of Lincolnwood.

Here is an excerpt of her story:

"A former special ed student was diagnosed with leukemia over the summer. He has a sister that just left for college, two brothers in high school, and a sixth-grade sister. He did so much for us while he was a middle schooler. His family is always the first to volunteer and help others.

"They now need our help. His father lost his job this summer and now bills are piling up. Every little bit will help, especially at the holidays. This would help paying for parking or gas when they travel to the hospital for treatment. Parking is expensive, even for patients/families."

• The Believe Project is awarding $100 each day in December to a different person with a good idea for how to use the money to do a good deed for someone else. If you'd like the chance to help someone, submit your idea in 150 words or fewer at events.dailyherald.com/believe-project.
