St. Nicholas visits families at St. Mary Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast

Saint Nicholas, portayed by deacon Lou Farinella, visits with attendees at the annual "Breakfast with St. Nicholas," sponsored by the St. Mary of Huntley Knights of Columbus Council 11666.

The Dec. 6 breakfast was held after Masses in the Parish Center of St. Mary's Church in Huntley.

This holly, jolly event began with breakfast prepared and served by the St. Mary Knights of Columbus, followed directly by children's activities that include "Fun and Facts with St. Nicholas," Christmas carols, crafts and games sponsored by the St. Mary youth and confirmation groups, and photo opportunities with St. Nicholas.

The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with nearly 1.8 million members in over 14,000 local councils. Last year, Knights donated 70 million volunteer hours and $167 million in charitable and benevolent causes, sponsoring projects to benefit their church, councils, communities, families and youth.

In addition to the "Breakfast with St. Nicholas," the council hosts Christmas tree sales, veterans appreciation dinners, charity golf outings, soccer challenges, and free throw challenges.

The next Free Throw Challenge will be held from 9 to 11:45 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 9, at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center, 10450 Algonquin Road in Huntley. The awards ceremony will be at noon. All girls and boys, age 9 to 14, are invited to participate in this free event at the local level of competition for the 2016 Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.
