Glenbard students coordinate smokeout campaign

Glenbard Reality Illinois/Teen Advisory Panel members, in partnership with the DuPage County Health Department and Illinois Department of Public Health, have organized a Great American Smokeout campaign for the Glenbard high schools on Nov. 19.

On the third Thursday of November each year, the American Cancer Society organizes the Great American Smokeout to encourage smokers to go just one day without using tobacco. This day offers an opportunity for smokers to prove that they can take the first step toward quitting.

Glenbard students have organized this awareness event to remind their classmates and the community to quit for a day and then quit for life and support others to do the same.

Reality Illinois was created by and for Illinois teens to spread the word about tobacco industry manipulation, second-hand smoke and the harmful effects of all tobacco products. The group meets monthly, and all students are welcome to join. For more information, contact Gilda Ross, Glenbard student and community projects coordinator, at 942-7668 or gilda_ross
