Butkus to bring I Play Clean to Glenbard West May 4
The Glenbard Parent Series: Navigating Healthy Families will present I Play Clean with Dick Butkus at 7 p.m. Monday, May 4, at Glenbard West High School, 670 Crescent Blvd., Glen Ellyn.
Butkus is considered one of the greatest players in NFL history. This Hall of Famer, "Most Feared Man in the Game," iconic former University of Illinois all-American and Chicago Bears all-pro linebacker now works to protect football for generations to come and channels his love of the game through his I Play Clean campaign. This program encourages teens to train hard, eat well and play with attitude, instead of resorting to illegal performance-enhancing drugs. Parents, coaches, and high school athletes are invited to hear from a man who changed the game forever through his intensity, grit and resilience as he offers advice about training, nutrition and the health issues involved with taking steroids.
Also on the program will be Butkus' son, Matt, who played defensive lineman for the USC Trojans, was part of the 1990 Rose Bowl championship squad and who currently drives wellness initiatives through the Dick Butkus Center for Cardiovascular Wellness; and DuPage Medical Group board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Vijay Thangamani, who is a former team sports physician for the Boston Celtics and University of Notre Dame. Glenbard West alumnus Mike Hall, winner of ESPN's first season of Dream Job and current Big Ten Network anchor, will serve as moderator.
GPS is generously sponsored by the Cebrin Goodman Center, Cooperative Association for Special Education (CASE), College of DuPage, DuPage Medical Group, Emmy Gaffey Foundation and Trust Company of Illinois. Additional support for this special event comes from the Make a Memory Foundation, B.R. Ryall YMCA, Huck Bouma Attorneys at Law, and the First Hitter/Bruce Capel Memorial Foundation.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
