Two charged in Barrington church break-in

Two men who police say attempted to break into a safe at a Barrington church Sunday have been charged with felony burglary to a place of worship, officials said. Barrington police officers responded to a call of a burglary about 4:20 p.m. Sunday at St. Anne Church, police said in a news release. Full story.

Fire damages home in North Aurora

Nobody was injured in a house fire last night in North Aurora, fire officials said. North Aurora firefighters were called just after 5 p.m. to the single-family, two-story home on the 3000 block of Carlisle Lane, North Aurora Captain Adam Miller said. Full story.

Elgin man, woman face drug and gun charges

An Elgin search warrant uncovered drugs and a gun Tuesday evening and led to multiple charges against two people, police said yesterday. The charges came after a monthlong investigation by Elgin's special investigations division after officers received a tip that drugs were being sold at a home on the 1200 block of Fleetwood Drive in the Buena Vista Apartment Complex. Wauconda man accused of tire thefts in Palatine

A Wauconda man was arrested Tuesday in Palatine where police say they found him stealing spare tires off vehicles in an apartment complex. Police were called just after 1 a.m. to an apartment complex on the 1500 block of North King Edward Court after a resident saw someone crawl underneath a parked vehicle, Palatine police said in a news release. Tollway looks to hire minority contractors

Tollway leaders said yesterday they're trying to increase the number of black contractors who participate in a $12 billion, 15-year capital program. Illinois law encourages the inclusion of disadvantaged business enterprise firms - owned by minorities or women - as a percentage of state contracts. Full story.
