Wauconda man accused of tire thefts in Palatine

A Wauconda man was arrested Tuesday in Palatine, where police say they found him stealing spare tires off vehicles in an apartment complex. Police were called just after 1 a.m. to an apartment complex on the 1500 block of north King Edward Court after a resident saw someone crawl underneath a parked vehicle, Palatine police said in a news release. Police say they found Gerald A. Brown, 44, in the parking lot with a pair of bolt cutters and numerous spare tires in his vehicle.

Four residents in the complex reported spare tires missing from their SUVs or trucks. Brown was charged with four felony counts of theft. He appeared in court Wednesday morning in Rolling Meadows, where a judge set bail at $40,000. He's expected in court again at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 10.
