Moylan vote ‘on the right side of history’

I am writing as a constituent of the 55th District. I would like to express my sincere thanks to Rep. Marty Moylan for casting his vote in favor of marriage equality during the fall veto session in Springfield.

His support helped Illinois stay on the right side of history and uphold the American principles of equality and freedom.

I am so very proud to say that Rep. Moylan represented the voices of the majority of the Illinois citizens and ensured that this state does not discriminate against people based on their race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

Passing Senate Bill 10 will have a tremendous impact on couples and families in communities throughout the state. Allowing same sex couples to marry provides equal access to thousands of federal protections and responsibilities, same as heterosexual couples. These are basic rights and it is great to see elected officials. like Rep. Moylan, supporting the fight to protect those rights.

To anyone who finds this action to be in conflict with religious beliefs I say this — marriage equality is a legal matter. SB10 does not require any religious institution to solemnize a marriage. This is about treating all people equally under the law and it is long overdue.

Once again, thank you Rep. Marty Moylan for voting yes and helping our state and country continue to make strides toward becoming a tolerant and inclusive nation that treats each of its citizens equally under the law.

May God bless you and all that you set out to accomplish on behalf of the citizens in our district and the state of Illinois. You are a true leader, sir.
