Fundraiser for Flowers for Heroes on Nov. 9

Flowers for Heroes is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting America’s Gold Star families and honoring the memories of their loved ones by placing flowers on the headstones of the fallen at national cemeteries around the country.

"It is our mission to recognize all of our fallen heroes,” said Russ Phillip, founder of Flowers for Heroes. "I feel it is our duty, after all, our armed forces are the eyes and ears that never sleep and allow us the very privileges we have today. At their expense, freedom is not free. We take this for granted.”

Phillip’s more than 20-year career in the floral industry led him to create the nonprofit organization. His goal , "to give back to the loved ones of those who gave their lives on the battlefield defending America,” is something he is passionate about.

The foundation has been in the developing stages since 2009. Today, they are currently seeking volunteers and donations, which will enable them to give back to the families and loved ones.

"I created Flowers for Heroes because I believe the families of those killed in action do not get the assistance they should,” he said. “We chose to support the Gold Star families because they have given the ultimate sacrifice, losing a loved one in the battle, which is unimaginable.”

There is a $10 cover charge to get into Shark City, and 100 percent of proceeds will go to Flowers for Heroes.

“This event is a huge blessing for Flowers for Heroes, as they all are,” he said. “We will continue to work on honoring our nation’s finest - alive or fallen - to ensure they are not forgotten and to build many marriages with the communities along the way.”
