SJB's The Little Mermaid, Jr. Makes a Splash!

Swim on over to Wheaton Academy for St. John the Baptist's highly anticipated, always entertaining, Spring Musical, The Little Mermaid, Jr. Go “under the sea” and “take it from me” that the talented students of SJB deliver yet another amazing rendition of a Disney classic. This year's play is once again one of the best you will see from an elementary school production. The entire cast does a phenomenal job of entertaining the audience with beautiful vocals, sassy dances, and delivering plenty of laughs.

Michelle Bucaro, proud SJB school parent and Director of the play, has been directing the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade stars for five years now. She couldn't be more excited about this year's production and said, “The Little Mermaid is one of my all-time favorite Disney movies, and so that makes this year's production even more exciting for me. I am so proud of our SJB students. They have worked so hard and their talent is beyond their years. We have an exceptional cast and it has been a joy for me to work with this group of students. We welcome back Heidi Buyck, our intern from North Central College, and our new acting coach/choreographer, Jack Bauer, (also from NCC). Myself and the kids especially, were also thrilled to work again with their former, beloved Music Teacher, Jennifer Hayes, as she came back to be Music Director for the play. My right arm and Assistant Director, Teri Momot, with the help of Production Assistant, Laura Pellicane, have also dedicated so much of their time and talent to bring something very special to the production.”

Abbi Momot, who plays Ariel, is an 8th grader and a seasoned actor. In addition to playing Dorothy in last year's SJB hit, The Wizard of Oz, Momot has been in seven other plays for Christian Youth Theater and other schools. This is her second main lead as the mermaid with an angelic voice. Momot said, “In my 3rd play with SJB I am so excited to have the audience join us under the sea. We have an extremely talented cast, crew and a wonderful team of directors. The journey has been an amazing experience. Sit back, take a deep breath and enjoy the show!”

Join Ariel, Sebastian, Flounder, Scuttle, Prince Eric, King Triton, Grimsby, Ursula, and all the sea creatures as they SHINE under the sea!
