Stevenson edges Antioch in NSC finale
Stevenson’s girls basketball team ended its regular season by defeating Antioch 49-45 at home in a North Suburban Conference crossover Tuesday night, improving its record to 18-8.
The teams kept the game close as the Patriots led 19-18 at the half. The Patriots were led by Sophia Way, who scored 10 points. Kari Moffat, Paige Freudenberg and Alex Elzinga added 9 apiece.
Despite the loss, coach Tim Borries said his Sequoits played a good game in their final regular-season matchup.
He added that aggressive defense allowed Antioch (16-11) to keep Stevenson from breaking the 50-point mark, and inspired play from Carly McCameron in the paint gave Antioch a spark that has been missing in the last few weeks of the season. McCameron pulled in 10 rebounds, while scoring 6 points and dishing out 3 assists.
Paige Gallimore led the offense with 14 points, and she also got “down-and-dirty” in the paint, Borries said, with 7 rebounds.
“The Sequoits had balanced scoring from the players who saw time on the court, which proves to be a good sign heading into regional play next week,” Borries said.
Libertyville 43, Wauconda 18: Dana Kym scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 15 minutes, as the Wildcats improved to 14-13 with the North Suburban Conference crossover win.
Olivia Mayer scored 7 points and had 2 assists for Libertyville, which won its fifth in a row to pull above the .500 mark for the first time this season.
Lauren Nee scored 6 points for Wauconda (5-20). Jessie Wood and Maggie LePage added 4 apiece.
