Cary-Grove’s Jakubicek hits 1,000 mark
Olivia Jakubicek joined some elite company Tuesday night.
With a free throw early in the game, the Cary-Grove senior hit the 1,000 point mark for her high school career. She went on to a big night, scoring 23 points with 6, rebounds, 7 steals and 5 assists as the Trojans defeated Buffalo Grove 56-44 in a nonconference girls basketball game at Cary-Grove.
“I’m really proud of it,” said Jakubicek of reaching 1,000 points. “It’s a big milestone for me. It proves and shows how hard I’ve worked and how much I love basketball. It’s a team sport for me but doing this shows my love of basketball and all the offseason work I’ve put in.”
Jakubicek, who said she didn’t know she was approaching 1,000 points until C-G coach Rod Saffert told her at practice on Monday, is the seventh Cary-Grove girls basketball player to reach the mark. Her sister, Clare, is the leading scorer in C-G history with 1,700 career points. Clare Jakubicek is currently enrolled at Indiana University, which she transferred to from Northern Illinois, and is sitting out this season.
Senior Joslyn Nicholson added 15 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals for the Trojans (6-4) in Tuesday’s win, while Kylie Smith had 9 points.
