Change your clocks, but not your safety habits on Nov. 4

DUPAGE COUNTY—With Daylight Saving Time ending on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, the DuPage County Health Department urges DuPage County residents to be careful during the winter months when daylight in the evening is reduced.

Remember that all of your clocks need to “fall back” one hour on Sunday. While doing that, also remember to change the batteries on your smoke detectors.

The Health Department recommends that residents be careful, especially during the first few weeks of Central Standard Time, as people adjust to darkness when returning home from work or school.

Here are some activities that require caution:

• Walkers, runners and bicycle riders should take extra precautions, such as carrying lights or wearing reflective clothing, if they are outside in the evening.

• Drivers need to be alert to pedestrians in the evening when there is potential for accidents.

• Be mindful that children may still be playing outdoors in the evening and drivers need to be careful.
