Midwestern University Announces New Speech-Language Pathology Degree Program
In an effort to address a growing healthcare need, Midwestern University will offer a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Speech-Language Pathology on the Downers Grove Campus. The University is currently accepting applications for the new program and plans to matriculate its first class of 40 students in the fall of 2013. Qualified applicants are required to have earned a bachelor's degree and completed prerequisite communication disorders coursework. The program takes seven quarters, or just under two years, for degree completion.

Speech-language pathologists are the professional of choice for families whose children experience developmental delays, or individuals who lose their communicative abilities due to accidents, injuries, or disease. Therapists address the needs of people with communication and swallowing disorders of any age, from infancy through adulthood. The demand for qualified speech-language pathologists is expected to grow in response to an aging population and growing numbers of children with language and learning problems. Most speech-language pathology programs place 100 percent of their graduates in entry-level jobs within three months of graduation.
The Speech-Language Pathology Program at Midwestern University will provide students with academic, research, and clinical experiences that will ensure their preparedness for a rewarding career. Students accepted into the program will enjoy the advantage of being educated in an environment with other healthcare professionals, such as physicians, dentists, pharmacists, psychologists, occupational and physical therapists. They will also benefit from new classroom facilities and will work with clients at the new Midwestern University Clinic. Graduates of the program will be fully qualified for entry-level positions as speech-language pathologists in a variety of educational or healthcare settings.
