Close win for Warren at Hersey’s Jamboree

Warren produced a winning effort in the 200-yard medley relay and got a victory in the 100 breaststroke from Megan Delfeld on the way to taking top team honors in the Hersey Jamboree on Saturday at Olympic pool in Arlington Heights.

The Blue Devils finished at 261.5 points to edge runner-up Maine South (256). The host Huskies placed third (214), just ahead of Mundelein (211), which had the meet’s only quadruple winner in Erin Falconer.

Katie Travelstead, Delfeld, Jessie Grasty and Paige Wells set the tone for Warren by winning the medley in 1:54.01, and Delfeld won the breaststroke in 1:09.24.

Paige Wells contributed third-place finishes in the 50 and 100 freestyles, Katie Bell was third in the 500 free, and Becky Stoehl and Karis Kovacs finished 3-4 in diving for Warren.

Jenna Zitkus had an individual win for Maine South in the 100 fly (59.94).

Falconer won the 100 free (54.21), the 200 free (1:57.02) and had legs on the winning freestyle relays. In the 200, she joined Meghan Falconer, Rachel Robb and Karrie Kozokar. In the 400, it was Lauren Anderson, Robb, Karrie Kozokar and Erin Falconer.

Hersey senior Amanda Petro won the 200 IM in 2:09.74 and the 100 backstroke in 58.58, and the Huskies got big diving points from Hannah Bovino (second, 384.60) and Megan Nocita (sixth, 294.35). Hersey’s medley relay of Petro, Zeynep Ahat, Kelsey O’Donnell and Lenna Fotos was third in 1:54.69, and the 400 free relay of O’Donnell, Kayla Dale, Sarah Petro and Amanda Petro was third in 3:50.99.

Buffalo Grove finished fifth at 121 points. The top Bison finishes came in a winning performance from Margaret Lotzer in the 500 free (5:25.84), runner-up efforts from Veronika Jedryka in the 50 free (25.05) and 100 free (54.77), and a third-place finish by Callie Fasching in the 200 free (2:05.88). BG’s 200 free relay of Fasching, Lotzer, Sara Morosan and Jedryka placed second in 1:44.49.

Elk Grove, led by Simona Kurta’s second-place finish in the 100 fly (1:01.08) and third-place effort in the 200 IM (2:18.82), finished sixth with 102 points.

Prospect, which placed eighth with 78 points, had a victory from sophomore diver Dana Liva (412.40).

Nicole Sanchez had the best finish for seventh-place Jacobs/Hampshire with a fourth-place showing in 50 free (26.00).

The top placement for Cary-Grove was a runner-up finish for Melissa Rose in 100 breaststroke (1:10.16).

Jackie Rose provided a fourth-place finish for St. Viator in the 200 free (2:05.99).

Barrington Invitational

Barrington used a victory in the 100-yard breaststroke from Mekenna Scheitlin and a win from the 400 free relays tema of Andrea Vega, Emma Barnett, Lisa Danhauer and Kirsten Jacobsen to edge runner-up Lyons Township in the invitational hosted by the Fillies on Saturday.

Barrington finished with 307 points, ahead of the Lions (290) and Loyola (278).

Scheitlin also won the 200 IM (2:08.25) and had legs on two winning relays. She joined Barnett, Olivia Hoffman and Danhauer on the winning medley (1:52.45). In the 200 free relay, it was Vega, Scheitlin, Jacobsen and Danhauer winning in 1:39.78.

Jacobsen took top honors in the 200 free (1:53.08) and 100 free (52.65), and Barnett won the 500 free (5:15.08).
