Grants available to groups to reduce obesity

DUPAGE COUNTY—The DuPage County Health Department and its FORWARD Initiative (Fighting Obesity to Reach healthy Weight Among Residents of DuPage) are making grants available to community groups to help fight obesity.

Through partners such as Action for Healthy Kids, Cadence Health, JR Albert Foundation and Edward Hospital, FORWARD is offering funding to groups that identify strategies to create healthier environments within their communities and bring about a reversal of childhood obesity in DuPage County.

“Get in the Action” mini mobilization grant awards between $250 and $5,000 will be made to organizations with proven track records of success and whose projects identify significant systems, policy or environmental changes in specific populations or communities.

The majority of awards will be between $250 and $2,500. The total number of projects funded will depend on the total number of eligible projects.

Through a broad-based network of more than 650 committed partners, FORWARD's goal is to implement changes in all 32 DuPage municipalities by identifying resources, harnessing expertise, promoting education and advancing opportunities for policy, system, and environmental change.

Call (630) 221-7148 for more information or visit www.forwarddupage.org for a link to grant application forms.
