Miss Septemberfest to be crowned at annual Rotary luncheon

Schaumburg’s Miss Septemberfest, a scholarship program sponsored by The Rotary Club of Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates, will be crowned at the club’s noon luncheon meeting on Friday, Aug. 31, at Bridges of Poplar Creek Country Club, in Hoffman Estates.

The applicants (Schaumburg village residents between the ages of 16 and 19) are judged on four criteria — poise, character, community involvement, and knowledge of Schaumburg. There were 22 girls interviewed on Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Prairie Center for the Arts.

Ted Gross is the Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Rotary Club president and will be presenting the Rotary Club scholarships at the luncheon. Miss Septemberfest will be presented with a $500 scholarship and each member of the court receives a $250 scholarship from the Schaumburg/Hoffman Rotary Club. The Rotary sponsors the Miss Septemberfest crowning ceremony luncheon and parade float. The Sons and Daughters of Italy provide Miss Septemberfest with a $1,000 scholarship, and give $250 to each of the court members. Each candidate also receives a spa day from Eve Beauty Salon in Schaumburg, gift certificates from Mario Tricoci and L.A. Tan, as well as a savings bond, trophy, flowers, and sash courtesy of the village of Schaumburg, The Sons and Daughters of Italy, and Schaumburg Jaycees.

The five finalists for 2012 are: Mariah Ghant, Conant High School; Siobhan Geraghty, Schaumburg High School; Laura Jensen, Conant High School; Taryn Neubecker, Schaumburg High School; and Andreya DeLarco, St. Viator High School.
