Zumba fundraiser at Waukegan Y to showcase different styles

Come dance, mingle and have fun as Northern Lake YMCA hosts a special Zumba class Saturday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Proceeds from this fund-raising event will help the Y purchase a new sound system for use in its fitness classes.

Mayra Galindo, health and wellness coordinator at the Northern Lake Y, says it will be a typical Zumba class for the most part – with one notable exception. Participants will see demonstrations of different styles from as many as 10 instructors during this one session. “We're looking forward to seeing a lot of new faces on Sept. 8 working out, having fun and seeing a variety of Zumba styles – all for a good cause,” Galindo says.

Zumba fund-raiser participants can save $5 by registering in advance at Northern Lake YMCA, 2000 Western Ave., Waukegan, or Central Lake YMCA, 700 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills. Registrations also can be done by calling (847) 360-9622 (Waukegan) or (847) 367-6797 (Vernon Hills). The cost to register the day of the event is $25 for Y members and $30 for community members. Any community member who signs up for a Y membership at the event will have his or her joiner's fee waived. Tickets also will be sold for raffle prize drawings immediately following the Zumba class.
