Marengo eliminates Hampshire
Hampshire outhit Marengo 6-4 Monday but the host Indians won where it mattered most, notching a 4-2 victory over the Whip-Purs in the play-in game of the Class 3A Hampshire baseball regional. The game was played at Marengo.
Dan Averrero was 2-for-3 for Hampshire in the loss, while Michael Laramie had a double. Brandon Wescher and Piotr Barnas drove in runs.
Justin Thinger took the loss on the mound for Hampshire (12-18-1).
“We had our opportunities, we just didn’t capitalize,” said Hampshire coach John Sarna.
Lake Zurich 4, Jacobs 1: Mark Self’s home run was Jacobs’ only run in this nonconference loss. Nick Schmidt took the loss for the Golden Eagles (18-15).
