South Elgin shines on Senior Night

South Elgin’s softball Senior Night at Judson University Tuesday went through a lightning delay. Then the Storm really kicked up — as in the Storm’s softball team.

Senior Sam Bolin hit a 2-run home run and pitched a complete game with 5 strikeouts and 1 walk as South Elgin rolled to an 11-2 win over Metea Valley in Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division play.

The Storm (13-18, 10-8) can still play an important role in the outcome of the Valley race as they travel to Waubonsie Valley on Thursday. Bartlett holds a 1-game lead over Waubonsie and Bartlett hosts Neuqua Valley today. While the Hawks can clinch a tie with a win today, Waubonsie needs to beat Metea Valley today and South Elgin Thursday to stay alive for a tie. Bartlett plays at Lake Park Friday. If Bartlett wins out, it wins the league title outright.

Junior Victoria Watt had the hot bat for South Elgin Tuesday, going 4-for-4 with a triple. Sophomore Alyssa Buddle was 2-for-3 with a 3-run home run, Bolin went 3-for-4 and Paige Allen had 3 RBI.

Grayslake North 4, Huntley 0: The Red Raiders (7-21) were unable to get on the scoreboard as they fell on the road in this Fox Valley Conference crossover game. Randi Peterson and Angela Tribuzio recorded the Red Raiders’ lone 2 hits. Haley Spannraft (6-14) suffered the loss in the circle as she allowed 8 hits and 1 walk while striking out 2 in a complete-game effort.

Jacobs 11, Woodstock 4: The Golden Eagles (20-14) used a 5 run first inning to jump ahead and they never looked back as they defeated Woodstock in this Fox Valley Conference crossover game that was shortened due to bad weather. Taylor Belo turned in a 3-for-4 performance from the plate with a double and 4 RBI while Jacquelyn Hengler also recorded a double for the Golden Eagles.

Batavia 13, Larkin 0: Lexi Smithberg and Alex Buhrow managed the only 2 Royals’ hits as they fell to the Bulldogs in Upstate Eight Conference action. Kiernan Schock took the loss for the Royals as she went 6 innings allowing 13 runs on 17 hits while striking out 5 batters.

McHenry 16, Hampshire 1: Tiffany Bentley had 2 doubles and Jen Hurst drove in the Whip-Purs’ (11-22) lone run as they fell in an FVC crossover. Haley Widmayer (2-5) suffered the loss for the Whips’.

Crystal Lake South 1, Crystal Lake Central 0: Sam McLean singled up the middle in the bottom of the eighth inning to drive in the Gators’ (20-10) winning run as they defeated rival Crystal Lake Central in this Fox Valley Conference crossover game. Kim Woods added a double while Hailee Massie (9-8) went the distance in the circle striking out 9 while allowing just 1 walk and scattering 3 hits.
