Hubly’s strikes lift Elk Grove
Elk Grove got a pair of penalty kick goals from Kelli Hubly in each half, and Hubly broke a 2-2 tie in the second half with her third goal of the night as the Grenadiers edged South Elgin 3-2 in a game that featured a lengthy weather delay.
The Grens advance to the regional championship game of the Class 3A Schaumburg girls soccer sectional.
Elk Grove (13-7-2) played without senior all-state defender Katie Naughton; coach Dan Klaus says she was battling a 102-degree fever and he’s hopeful she could recover in time for Saturday’s 11 a.m. regional title matchup against Schaumburg at Elk Grove.
Klaus said Sarah Kinnard provided quality play in Naughton’s absence.
Melissa Solorio tended the goal for Elk Grove.
Schaumburg 7, Hoffman Estates 0: Becky Sneddon and Alex Ben both scored twice and Sarah Kolowski, Jenna Eaker and Kelsey Steenstrup also found the back of the net to lift the No. 4 seed Saxons (13-2-4).
Sneddon also had 2 assists, Amanda Kelly and Brittany Reinhart had 1 each and goalkeeper Brooke Schocker made 3 saves to earn the shutout.
Conant 11, Elgin 0: Senior striker Courtney Raetzman led the way with 4 goals as the No. 3 seeded Cougars rolled ahead. Conant (17-3-0) next meets the winner of the lightning-postponed matchup between No. 7 Batavia and No. 10 Lake Park. Originally scheduled for Tuesday night, it will instead by played at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
Conant will meet the Batavia-Lake Park winner at 6 p.m. Friday at Conant.
Palatine sectional
Buffalo Grove 5, Wheeling 0: Sara Busse had 3 goals and Sarah O’Connor scored twice to lift the second-seeded Bison to a first-round victory.
Katie Okamoto got the shutout for BG (13-5-1), which wil host Fremd at 6:30 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.
Fremd 1, Highland Park 0: A goal by Mary Kate Schiffer was the difference as the No. 7 seeded Vikings (7-9-3) advanced to face BG on Friday.
Prospect 1, Glenbrook North 0: The Knights (11-7-3) weathered a lightning delay to claim a regional semifinal victory. They’ll meet host Stevenson in the championship round Friday.
Stevenson 1, Zion-Benton 0: The No. 3 seed Patriots (13-5-2) advanced and will host Prospect for the regional championship round at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Niles North sectional
Maine West’s scheduled 7 p.m. start Tuesday with Niles North at New Trier was postponed by lightning. It has been rescheduled for 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The winner of the Maine West-Niles North will face No. 2 New Trier, which rolled past Steinmetz 9-0 on Tuesday, in regional championship play Friday.
Rockford Boylan sectional
Jacobs handled Larkin 5-0, but the second scheduled game between Crystal Lake South and Dundee-Crown was postponed by lightning. It will be played at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Class 2A Lakes sectional
Top-seeded St. Viator (11-7-4) had no trouble with its first-round opponent in a 6-0 victory over Mather at Amundsen. The next test for the Lions is at 4 p.m Friday in regional championship round against No. 8 seed Antioch, which defeated No. 9 Amundsen 2-1 Tuesday.
