Jacobs outslugs Dundee-Crown

The baseball teams from Jacobs and Dundee-Crown engaged in an old-fashioned slugfest in Algonquin Monday.

When the dust settled, the host Golden Eagles grabbed Game 1 in the District 300 series, 19-12, in a game that featured 39 hits and 8 errors.

The Golden Eagles ran out to a 13-3 lead after two innings and even though the Chargers mounted a comeback, Jacobs was able to hold on for the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win.

Jacobs’ Zac Camacho was 4-for-4 with 5 RBI and hit the game’s only home run. Ryan Ulmer (3-for-4, 4 RBI), Max Rider (3-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI), Connor Conzelman (4-for-5, 2B, RBI) and Kenny Finn (2-for-4, 2B, RBI) added to the Golden Eagles’ 22-hit attack.

Evan Blunk (6-2) picked up the win for Jacobs (17-13, 10-7), pitching 5 innings with 5 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Dundee-Crown got productive offense from Ryan Suwanski (3-for-5, 2B, RBI), Luis Garcia (3-for-5, 2B, 3 RBI), Zach Girard (2-for-5, 3B, 3 RBI) and Trent Muscat (3-for-4, 2 RBI).

Nick Lodi took the loss for the Chargers (8-17, 5-13).

CL South 12, Grayslake Central 2: The Gators scored early and often in claiming a share of the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division championship, Crystal Lake South’s first conference title since 1996. Tyler Hall (7-4) allowed just 1 hit in 4 innings for the win. Jake Bigos was 4-for-4 with a home run and Nick Martin was 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI to lead the CL South offense. Tyler Salm (2-for-3, RBI) and Max Meitzler (2-for-3, 2 RBI) also contributed for the Gators (25-9, 16-3).

“This is the first time in 16 years we’ve won conference. I’m excited about that,” said CL South coach Brian Bogda, whose team also broke the school wins record. “We have a nice senior class and we’ve had the pitching. Zack Geib, Tyler Hall and Jordan Van Dyck take the ball when it’s their turn and keep us in every game. They’ve taken it upon themselves and then the offense has been great. The kids are focused and want more but with regionals it’s one and out, so you take it one game at a time. But they definitely want more.”

Prairie Ridge 2, Cary-Grove 0: Prairie Ridge kept pace with CL South in the FVC Valley with this win behind a 2-hitter from Tyler Tennant. Matt Byrne and Andrew Brierton had Cary-Grove; s only hits, both doubles. Matt Dunlap allowed just 5 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in taking the loss for the Trojans (20-11, 13-5).

Waubonsie Valley 4, Bartlett 1: Waubonsie Valley scored 3 runs to win an Upstate Eight Valley game suspended earlier this month in a 1-1 tie. Dan Gallanis had a double and an RBI for Bartlett (15-17, 10-12) and Kyle Garcia took the loss.

Batavia 13, Elgin 6: Jake Bartelt had a triple and Nick Turner hit a 3-run home run for Elgin in this Upstate Eight River loss. Eric Sedlak was the losing pitcher for the Maroons (11-20, 5-17).

CL Central 5, Hampshire 3: Justin Thinger (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Michael Laramie (3B) led Hampshire’s offense in this FVC Fox loss. Luke Wians and Tyler Crater also drove in runs for the Whip-Purs (12-16, 6-12). Thinger took the loss on the mound.

Huntley 11, McHenry 1: The Red Raiders pounded out 16 hits in this FVC Valley win. Colin Lyman (3-for-4, 2B, 3 RBI), Tyler Albright (2-for-4, RBI), Bryce Only (2-for-4), Nick Corpolongo (3-for-4, RBI), Kameron Sallee (3-for-4) and Tyler Mundak (2-for-4, 2 RBI) led the offense for Huntley (19-14, 10-8), while Dan Lowry, Jake Perkins, Craig Klein and Bryan Doherty combined for a no-hitter.
