Sola a big hit for Schaumburg

Kevin Sola made it a memorable 24 hours for the Schaumburg baseball program.

One day after Schaumburg coach Paul Groot earned his 600th career victory, Sola made No. 601 a no-hitter as the junior right-hander beat visiting Lane Tech 5-1 on Saturday.

The only run allowed by Sola came in the fifth inning as the Saxons improved to 15-12 overall.

Palatine 2, Burlington Central 0: Palatine junior Dan Riddle produced 15 unsolvable riddles from Burlington Central on Saturday night at Trout Park in Elgin.

Riddle threw a 5-hitter with 15 strikeouts for the Pirates (12-17) in the nonconference victory. He allowed only 1 walk and threw 80 of his 112 pitches for strikes.

Palatine scored its runs in the third on a two-out error after Anthony Fortunato singled, Eric Scheuermann (2-for-3) had bunt single and Kurt Becker sacrificed. Riddle left the bases loaded with one out in the seventh and ended the game with a strikeout.

Elk Grove 6, Plainfield East 1: Luc Dimaso allowed only 1 hit in 5 innings and Michael Anciulis hit a 3-run homer for Elk Grove (14-13) in the nonconference win. Dimaso had 5 strikeouts and walks and also went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.

Rolling Meadows 7, Bartlett 3: Jack Milas went the distance and didn’t allow an earned run and Tyler Gaedele had a tiebreaking RBI double in a 3-run sixth for visiting Meadows (16-11) in the nonconference win. Milas scattered 7 hits and had 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.

Villanova-bound designated hitter Eric Lowe, in his third game back from an injured elbow, had a 2-run single to put the Mustangs up 6-3. Matt Dennis also had an RBI double.

Hersey, Hononegah split: Pat Nix threw a 5-hitter as Hersey (19-6) won 5-0 in the opener of a doubleheader in Rockton. Hononegah got a split with a 10-4 victory.

Warren 2, Fremd 1 (8 inn.): Junior Tim Polak allowed only 1 hit in a 7-inning no decision and two two-out errors and a wild pitch in the top of the eighth sent Fremd (16-10) to the nonconference loss. Polak had 3 strikeouts and 6 walks and Danny Haduch scored the tying run in the sixth when he stole home.

Joliet Catholic 2, St. Viator 1 (12 inn.): Chris Myjak had 6 strikeouts in 8 innings as Viator (14-12, 2-6) lost the East Suburban Catholic Conference game in Joliet. Brian Wilhite had 3 hits and a double and Cosimo Cannella drove in the only run for the Lions to tie the game in the sixth.

Lake Zurich 4, Buffalo Grove 1: Ryan Schumi went 2-for-3 with a homer and a double but Buffalo Grove (10-17) couldn’t capitalize on a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the fourth inning of the nonconference game.
