Prairie Ridge edges South Elgin for tourney title

South Elgin’s girls soccer team gave host tournament Prairie Ridge its best shot in the title game on Saturday, but the Storm couldn’t overcome allowing two second-half goals in a 2-1 loss in Crystal Lake.

The Storm (10-6-1) dealt with wicked winds all day, along with a nasty chill in the air.

Savanah Uveges netted her 19th goal in the first half to give South Elgin a great start in their attempt to beat the Wolves (11-3-1, 3-0).

“I thought the girls battled hard out there,” South Elgin coach Tiffany Disher said. “It was a combination of the legs running thin with the energy. Prairie Ridge has a nice program with some feisty girls.”

The Wolves worked to their advantage and found the back of the net with pair of goals in the second half from Kelsey Bear and Allyson Walsh.

“Our girls have improved since the beginning of the season,” Disher said. “We’re making combination passes and runs which are setting up the goals.

“I think this will help them with their overall confidence.”

The Storm won their earlier game of the day, a 2-0 shutout over Lakes (10-7-1).

In that game, Uveges scored both goals in the first half, at the 16th and 25th minute. Andrea Walsh assisted on the first goal and Veronika Noyszewski notched the assist on the second.

South Elgin tied its opening game on Friday 1-1 with Belvidere North.
