Gage Teschner’s walk off single with the bases loaded and two outs drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning Thursday as Elgin’s baseball team defeated Batavia 4-3 in Upstate Eight River action in Elgin. Derek Strohmaier drew a bases-loaded walk just prior to Teschner’s hit to plate the game-tying run.
“It was a great team win,” said Elgin coach David Foerester. “We were excited to have Gage at the plate with the game on the line and he came through. A great team win.”
Teschner was 3-for-4 with a double and 2 RBI for the Maroons (7-14, 3-11). Kiko Mari (2-0) picked up the win in relief of Ryan Sitter, who went 6 innings and allowed 7 hits, 2 earned runs, no walks and 2 strikeouts.
Westminster Christian 14, Alden-Hebron 4: Chase Woods was 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Will Woodhouse went 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI to lead the Warriors to a Northeast Athletic Conference win. Dylan Scully had 2 doubles for Westminster (14-8, 8-1, while Matt Swing and Luke Weston also doubled. Zack Edwards (4-3) picked up the win, allowing 7 hits with no walks and 7 strikeouts.
Metea Valley 5, Bartlett 2: Anthony Dyrkacz had 2 hits and an RBI, Robert Smith doubled and Dan Gallanis drove in a run for Bartlett (10-13, 5-9) in the Upstate Eight Valley. Robert Sadowski took the loss for the Hawks.
Prairie Ridge 13, Dundee-Crown 9: Jake Romano (3-for-3, HR, 4 RBI) led Dundee-Crown in this Fox Valley Conference Valley Division loss. Kyle Deatley was the losing pitcher for the Chargers (6-12-1, 3-6). Jordan Getzelman had 2 home runs for PR.
Burlington Central 11, North Boone 1: Bryan Cynova was 2-for-3 with a double and Blake Alexander had a double for the Rockets (16-6, 5-0) in the Big Northern East. Riley Jensen (6-1) tossed a 3-hitter with 9 strikeouts and 2 walks to earn the win.
Jacobs 3, McHenry 0: Evan Blunk (4-1) tossed a 4-hitter with 7 strikeouts and no walks as Jacobs (13-7, 8-1) won in the FVC Valley. Connor Conzelman had a home run and 2 RBI for the Golden Eagles, Mark Self was 3-for-3 and Kenny Finn drove in a run.
College baseball
ECC sweeps Rock Valley: Jimmy Martin was 3-for-5 with 4 RBI and Bob Thorson, Ryan Richardson (2 RBI) and Nate Pearson each had doubles as ECC downed Rock Valley 15-7 in Game 1 of a nonconference doubleheader. Thorson (6-0) also won the game on the mound. In Game 2, Sam Komel (3-3) allowed just 6 hits as ECC (23-16) completed the sweep. Justin Kalusa (2B), Matt Kaiser (2B, 2 RBI), Kyle Leone (2B, 2 RBI), David Mutter (3B) and Jimmy Martin (2-for-3, 2 RBI) led the offense.
