Hersey tops Barrington, on verge of East title

Nicole Pietro scored in the second half with an assist from Lauren Gierman to lift visiting Hersey past Barrington 1-0 in a Mid-Suburban League matchup featuring two of the conference’s top girls soccer teams Wednesday.

The victory puts the Huskies in position to clinch a spot in the MSL Soccer Bowl with a victory over Buffalo Grove, the MSL East’s second-place team, on Friday. Hersey is 7-0-1 against MSL foes.

Sophomore Morgan Harris made 8 saves for Hersey to earn her area-best 12th shutout of the season. Freshman Hannah Luedtke stopped 4 shots for Barrington.

Conant 2, Elk Grove 0: Courtney Raetzman scored Conant’s first goal and assisted on the second to help the host Cougars to a key MSL win.

Palatine 2, Rolling Meadows 1: Mackenzie Wiedemann’s second-half goal with an assist from Katelyn Mayer lifted the visiting Pirates (5-7-2) in an MSL crossover. Michelle Raymond had a first-half goal for Palatine, and keepers Meghan Ellis (5 saves) and Rachel Rhodes (3) helped limit the damage.

Monica Cynch had the goal, assisted by Ann Marie Lynch, for Rolling Meadows.

Fremd 2, Buffalo Grove 1: The host Bison made a pair of first-half goals hold up as Nicole Gardner scored with an assist from Sara Busse and Kelly Zickert assisted sister Colleen. Carrie Wagner scored for Fremd.
