Rubenstein rakes as Stevenson rolls
Cailin Rubenstein was a home run shy of the cycle, as Stevenson’s softball team defeated host Wauconda 8-2 in a North Suburban Conference crossover Thursday.
Rubenstein finished 4-for-5 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. The senior’s 2 doubles and triple accounted for the Patriots’ only extra-base hits. Nicole Alesi went 3-for-4 and scored a run for Stevenson, and Lexi Yonkovic was 2-for-5 and scored twice. Everyone in the Patriots’ starting lineup had at least one hit.
Sam Feder struck out seven and allowed 3 hits in earning the win.
Lake Zurich 12, Round Lake 2: Sophomore Olivia Schneider earned her first varsity win, striking out 12 in the North Suburban crossover and scattering just 2 hits over 5 innings.
Lake Zurich (11-6) was led offensively by Kelly Neises, who was 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored. Caty Grahf was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a stolen base, Carlee Parsons went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run, and McKenna Larson contributed a double.
Vernon Hills 11, Lake Forest 0: The host Cougars captured the North Suburban crossover in five innings, as Jenn Claussen allowed just 1 hit and struck out five.
Vernon Hills (12-6) got 2 hits apiece from Claussen, Tori Smith and Anya Mollenhauer. Smith and Mollenhauer each knocked in three runs, while Claussen had a double.
