Duckmann brothers lead Maine West
Crosley Duckmann was able to count on his older brother James for some help Thursday when Maine West hosted Rolling Meadows in a nonconference baseball game in Des Plaines.
Crosley Duckmann, a freshman, gave up his only run in the first of his 5-inning start. His brother James, a senior, came in and finished with two perfect innings to save a 2-1 victory.
The younger Duckmann allowed 3 hits and 5 walks and had 3 strikeouts and his brother had 2 strikeouts in relief. They also played a part in the fourth-inning rally that made Meadows (2-2) senior Matt Hendricks a tough-luck loser.
James Duckmann reached on a two-base error and scored on Scott Costello’s RBI single and error. Casey Duckmann sacrificed and Tom Kukec delivered a tiebreaking RBI single.
Hendricks allowed 6 hits and no earned runs and had 8 strikeouts and 1 walk as he threw 61 of his 82 pitches for strikes. He also drove in the only Meadows run with a first-inning single after Eric Lowe singled with two outs, stole second and took third on a wild pitch.
