Grant in good shape at Grayslake C. tourney
Grant’s girls soccer team put itself in position Tuesday to win the Grayslake Central girls soccer tournament.
The Bulldogs will play Grayslake Central at noon today in the finale of the tourney. If Grant wins, it will win the championship. Round Lake faces Waukegan at 10 a.m. today.
Grant edged Round Lake 2-0, scoring a goal in each half, while Ana Rodas made 3 saves in earning the shutout.
Marissa Allen scored the first goal off an assist from Jenna Pecorini. Nina Deligio gave Grant (2-3) an insurance goal, with Alyssa Wilhelm picking up the assist.
Grayslake Central was stunned by Waukegan 1-0 in penalty kicks. The Bulldogs outlasted the Rams 5-4 in kicks.
Through two rounds of the tournament, Grant is 2-0, while Grayslake Central and Waukegan are 1-1, and Round Lake 0-2.
If Waukegan loses to Round Lake, Grayslake Central wins the title with a win over Grant. If Waukegan defeats Round Lake and Grayslake Central defeats Grant, Waukegan, Grant and Grayslake Central all finish 2-1 with the tiebreaker being a point system that awards 3 points for any win and an additional 1 point for a shutout win, followed by goal differential.
