Youth serves Grayslake Central

A pair of freshman call-ups had big roles in the Grayslake Central girls soccer team’s opening game of its own tournament Monday.

Mikayla Willmuth scored twice, and fellow call-up Rachel Effa earned the shutout in goal, as the Rams blanked Round Lake 4-0.

Alex Wilson and Savannah Mudd also scored for Grayslake Central (3-1), which has won the tourney the last three years. Lauren Spalding and Skyler Jessop had assists.

Round Lake fell to 0-4.

Grant 6, Waukegan 0: At Grayslake Central, Jenna Pecorini led the Bulldogs with 3 goals and an assist in their opening match of the three-day tournament.

It was the first win of the season for Grant (1-3).

Marissa Allen, Nina Deligio and Allysa Wilhelm also scored and each added an assist. Jessica Jones and Bri Miller also had assists. Grant goalie Jen Jones made 4 saves.
