Wisniewski’s a winner in Libertyville debut
Libertyville’s softball team made a winner of Elissa Wisniewski in her head-coaching debut.
Maggie Meyer and Andie Grant each doubled twice as part of a 15-hit attack, as the Wildcats defeated Niles North 15-5 Tuesday.
Wisniewski, the former Stevenson pitching star, was an assistant coach at her high school alma mater before getting the head job at Libertyville following last season.
Grant, Taylor Oberman and Margaret Haws added triples for the Wildcats, while Calley Kaluzny went 2-for-5 with 3 RBI. Emily Teitz was 2-for-2, helping make a winner of Haley Alban.
Carmel 10, Lake Forest 0: The Corsairs played long ball.
Kelley Dodge and Kathleen Felicelli both hit home runs, and the visiting Corsairs won their first game of the season, in five innings.
Dodge led an 11-hit attack for Carmel (1-2) by going 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases. Leadoff hitter Skyler Zak (1-for-2, walk, 2 runs) stole four bases. Winning pitcher Erika Schoenfeld (5 innings, 7 strikeouts, 5 hits) helped her own cause with triple and single. Felicelli’s 3-run homer highlighted a 7-run fourth.
Prospect 2, Mundelein 1: The visiting Knights scored twice in the seventh off Mustangs starter Erin Kennelly, erasing a 1-0 deficit to win the nonconference game.
“Kennelly threw a great game. She dominated (through 6 innings),” said Mundelein coach Brett Wilhelm, whose team fell to 0-3. “If she continues to pitch that way for us, we’ll do good things.”
Kennelly also knocked in the Mustangs’ only run with a fifth-inning RBI single that scored Hailey Morelli. Kennelly led off the bottom of the seventh with a double, and the Mustangs had runners on first and second with none out but failed to score.
Palatine 12, Wauconda 4: Lexie Redmann went 2-for-3 with a 2-run single, and Alex Kinnamon had an RBI single for the host Bulldogs, who fell to 1-1.
Both teams committed 7 errors and stranded 10 runners on base.
“We’re still hitting the ball,” Wauconda coach Tim Rennels said. “Our hits just weren’t as timely.”
