Perfect conditions for Fremd’s Schwantz

It was a perfect day for softball.

And it was a perfect day for Fremd’s Ashlynne Schwantz.

The junior right-hander struck out 11 out of the 15 batters she retired on Tuesday in a 13-0 victory over visiting Grayslake Central for the first perfect game of her career.

“She was dominant,” said Fremd coach Jim Weaver, whose team improved to 5-0 with the nonconference win in Palatine. “There wasn’t a ball hit out of the infield.”

In fact, junior first baseman Michelle Mazur made 3 unassisted putouts on groundballs and senior second baseman Megan Hubbard had 1 assist to Mazur for the other out.

On offense, the Vikes’ bats were exploding as they belted 4 home runs, 2 by Hubbard and 1 apiece by sophomore Leigh Farina and senior Brittany Ciura.

Multiple hitters for the Vikes were Ciura (3-for-3, home run, double, 3 runs, 3 RBI), Hubbard (2-for-3, 4 RBI, 2 runs), Farina (2-for-3, 1 run, 2 RBI, home run, double), Kristine Herdegen (2-for-3, RBI, double, 1 run) and Mandi Matsumoto (2-for-2, 3 runs, 2 RBI, 2 steals, walk).

Schwantz is now 2-0 after going 11-2 last spring as a sophomore.

Palatine 12, Wauconda 4: The visiting Pirates raised their record to 6-1 as junior Megan Hedstrom (3-1) threw a 6-hitter with 11 strikeouts and no walks.

Grace Rohrwasser (2-for-3, 3 runs, 2 walks, stolen base), Tori Walzak (1-for-2, 3 runs, 2 walks), Lauren Logan (1-for-2, 3 runs, 2 RBI, 2 walks), Megan Hedstrom (3-for-5, 1 double, 1 run, 5 RBI), Courtney English (3-for-5), Jules Udoni (1-for-3, double) and Kristen Rossi (2-4, 3 runs) led the offense for Palatine.

Jacobs 4, Barrington 3: Maggie Hansen’s two-out bases-loaded double gave Jacobs a 4-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning at the Fields of Dreams.

The Fillies (5-2) scored twice in the bottom of the inning on RBI singles by Jordan Wekony and Savonnah Osmanski.

They got to within 4-3 in the sixth when an RBI groundout by Morgan Olszewski scored Osmanski.

Junior Loren Krzysko (2-for-4) doubled in the seventh and got to third on a wild pitch with two outs before Jacobs (2-0) got the final out on a ground ball.

Freshman Keenan Dolezal (5-1) started for the Fillies and Emma Woods went the final 413 innings, striking out five, walking none and allowing 2 hits and no runs.

Prospect 2, Mundelein 1: Visiting Prospect (3-1) scored 2 runs in the top of the seventh to squeeze out a 2-1 win.

Pitcher Hanna Lythberg (2-1), who struck out eight and tossed a 3-hitter, led off the inning with a single but was forced out at second on Michelle Korf’s grounder to second.

Michele Molini (2-for-3) singled to left-center and moments later Korf and Molini advanced to second and third before a walk to pinch-hitter Jill Sadowski loaded the bases.

Julie Mazur then hit a sacrifice fly to left to tie the game. With 2 outs, freshman shortstop Ally Schuldt had the game-winning single up the middle to score Molini from third base.

“It was nice for Hannah (Lythberg) to get this win,” said Knights coach Jim Adair. “She really pitched well and our hitting was just anemic. She makes our defense look so good, and I’m glad she’s doing so well. She’s paid her dues and is establishing herself as one of the better pitches in the area.”

St. Viator 6, Hoffman Estates 3: It was a dramatic first career win for Hawks freshman pitcher Charlotte Allan.

She got to watch senior Alexis Filler belt a 3-run walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Hawks (1-1) the come-from-behind-win.

Host Hoffman trailed 6-1 going into the bottom of the seventh.

When Filler (2-for-4) hit her blast over the left field fence, junior Nicole LaBeck and sophomore Kaileen Hendle were on base.

Sam Acosta (2-for-3) and LaBeck (2-for-4) each had doubles in the game while

Allan did not give up an earned run. She struck out six and walked none.
