Fu fools Viator as BG gets first win

Buffalo Grove’s softball team got its first win on Monday as junior Megan Fu threw a 7-hitter to defeat host St. Viator 6-0 in Arlington Heights.
Fu struck out three as the Bison improved to 1-2 after the nonconference win.
“Megan pitched real well,” said Bison coach Jamie Paul. “I liked her composure on the mound. She wasn’t always hitting her spots but she stayed composed.
“When she missed her spots, she kept her composure and came back and hit them the next time.”
Fu’s catcher junior Amanda Salzman led the Bison offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and RBI.
Freshman Maddi Morini, junior Erin Barton, freshman Julia Camardo, senior Becca Winter and senior Ali Levato each had singles for the Bison, who had 8 hits.
Lions sophomore pitcher Sam Hogan had 5 strikeouts,
“It was really good to get the first win,” said Paul, whose team hosts Elgin on Saturday. “I think some of the pressure is off now.”
Marengo 3, Barrington 0: Defending Class 3A champion Marengo (3-1) received a 1-hitter from Illinois-Chicago bound senior ace Lindsay Melson (3-1), who struck out 13 and walked seven.
Barrington (5-1) got its only hit when senior Ally McLaughlin led off the fifth with a single to left. The Fillies had runners on second and third with two outs in the third and fifth innings.
They ended up stranding eight runners in the nonconference game at the Fields of Dreams.
Melson got the only run she would need when Reed Karsten hit the first pitch of the game for a home run.
Junior Cassidy Kraimer went the first 5 innings for Barrington, striking out four.
Freshman Keenen Dolezal pitch the final 1 innings, giving up 1 hit ands no runs.
