Barrington gets an OT payoff
Barrington had received no extra benefits from playing overtime games the last two seasons.
The Broncos were 0-for-4 in overtimes after Friday's loss at Hoffman Estates. On Tuesday night, they went an extra four minutes in a nonconference boys basketball game at South Elgin.
This time there was a payoff for the Broncos (17-8) as they pulled out a 56-53 victory. Brad Zaumseil scored 17 points and Mark Bennett had 15 points in a game tied at 46-46 at the end of regulation.
John Schneider added 8 points and Scott Nelson chipped in 7 points. Barrington will have three straight winning seasons for only the second time since it had six in a row from 1976-77 to 1981-82.
Elk Grove 66, Streamwood 44: Austin Amann scored 20 points as Elk Grove (11-14) outscored Streamwood 21-3 to start the fourth quarter and took a 66-38 lead in the nonconference home win.
Anthony Jimenez hit three 3-pointers and had 15 points and Zach Solorio had 15 points as illness sidelined Jeff Miceli for the entire game and Kishan Patel for most of the second half.
"Jimenez stepped up and did a nice job for us and so did (Matt) McKenna on defense," said Elk Grove coach Anthony Furman.
Glenbrook South 66, Wheeling 49: Wheeling (2-22) led the nonconference home game 27-25 at halftime but was outscored 21-4 in the third by the Titans (6-18). Sophomore Chris Pierro had a game-high 17 points for the Wildcats.
