Stoczynski leads Hoffman past Schaumburg
Hoffman Estates junior Becca Stoczynski tossed in a game-high 19 points with 5 rebounds to help lift the Hoffman Estates girls basketball team to a 60-54 victory over visiting Schaumburg on Friday night.
Junior Destinee Young added 12 points with 11 rebounds and 4 assists while senior guard Sara Burns also had 12 points.
"We'd been playing well until our last game (loss at Barrington)," said Hoffman coach Mike Nocella. "We've been in positions where we've had the lead, but we finally played a complete game this time.
"It was back and forth game all the way where no one could get separation but we happened to get it at the right time at the end."
Junior Selena Martinez scored 5 of her 9 points in the final quarter, including a 3-pointer which gave Hoffman (9-14, 1-7) a 4-point lead with under two minutes left.
"Selena got rebounds, made only one or two turnovers and got a couple of loose balls," Nocella said. " She played a very solid game."
Senior guard Mary Pettit did a superb job running the offense, handing out 11 assists with 6 points and 5 rebounds.
Junior Amanda Kelly led the Saxons (12-12, 5-3) with 20 points and 4 3-pointers while senior teammate Alyssa Saklak added 17 points.
Conant 38, Barrington 32: Sophomore guard Sarah Mazurek scored 17 points with 3 3-pointers and senior Natalie Kutrumanes added 10 points for the host Cougars (8-16, 2 -6) in the Mid-Suburban West game.
Sophomore Angie Kirchoff led Barrington (12-13, 4-4) with 12 points while junior Alexa Resch added 6. Kirchoff and Natasha Singh each had 3-pointers for the Fillies.
"Conant played real hard," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro, whose team was down by 2 points with 1:30 left.
"We had a couple of chances," Barreiro said. "It was their senior night and they were clearly inspired. Natalie Kutrumanes (6-foot senior forward) played well and has had a nice career."
Barrington senior guard Nicole Collins suffered a head injury while taking a charge midway through the third quarter.
"We missed her for sure," Barreiro said. "But our kids played hard. We were 8-of-29 in the paint. We missed a lot of shots but Conant played hard."
Maine West 49, Maine East 30: After requiring overtime to defeat Maine East 51-48 in its first meeting in Des Plaines, the Warriors made things a little easier for themselves in Park Ridge on Friday night.

Amanda Hoye chipped in 7 points for the Warriors (9-15, 7-1), who kept their share of first place in the Central Suburban North.
"We were ready to play this time and went man-to-man on defense," said Maine West coach Derril Kipp, whose team jumped ahead 10-0. "Hopefully we can continue to play well (today),"
The Warriors have two games today in the Sweet 16 tourney at Lake Zurich. They meet Johnsburg at 11:30 a.m. and St. Charles North at 6 p.m.
