Girls basketball/Fox Valley roundup

Cary-Grove’s girls basketball team put the defensive clamps on Crystal Lake South Thursday night, running out to an 11-2 lead after one quarter and then notching a 50-34 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division win at Gator Alley.

Olivia Jackuicek led the Valley-leading Trojans (13-7, 7-1) with 13 points and 8 rebounds, while Paige Lincicum added 11 points. Stephanie Melone had 8 points for CL South (8-14, 2-5) and Sara Mickow added 7 points and 7 rebounds.

Cary-Grove shot 22 of 38 for the game while the Gators struggled, making just 10 of 33 shots.

Batavia 66, Burlington Central 42: Alison Colby had 12 points to lead the Rockets (8-14) in this nonconference loss. Senior scoring leader Jessica Laird scored 10 points for BC before leaving the game with an ankle injury.

Wheaton Academy 52, Harvest Christian 36: Kylee Knox led Harvest Christian (13-6) with 14 points in this nonconference loss.

Grayslake Central 42, Hampshire 27: Tiffany Bentley had 9 points and Michelle Dumoulin added 8 but Hampshire (13-11, 5-3) came up short on the road against the Fox Valley Fox Division leaders.
