Katie Batman scored a game-high 18 points, and Stevenson’s girls basketball team rallied in the fourth quarter to edge visiting Cary-Grove 45-43 in a nonconference game Wednesday night.

Batman’s three-point play with 40 seconds left gave the Patriots a one-point lead, and the senior guard hit another free throw down the stretch, as the hosts won for the eighth time in nine games.

Batman sank three 3-pointers on the night, and Kari Moffat added 11 points for Stevenson (18-6), which trailed 37-32 after three quarters.

“We went to a man-to-man (defense) in the fourth quarter, and that made a lot of good things happen,” Patriots coach Tom Dineen said.

Cary-Grove (12-8), which sank seven 3s, was led by Katie Barker’s 12 points and Olivia Jakubicek’s 11.

Vernon Hills 56, Deerfield 21: Meri Bennett-Swanson had 19 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks, and Alina Lehocky posted a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds in her first career varsity start, as the visiting Cougars captured the nonconference game.

Sydney Smith added 11 points and 4 blocks for Vernon Hills (17-3). Lauren Webb scored 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds, while Abby Springer dished out 6 assists and sank a 3-pointer.

Grayslake North 60, Lakes 42: Katie McGrath had a season-high 14 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals, and Kendall Detweiler chipped in 11 points for the host Knights, who cooled off the Eagles.

Sara Steinhoff and Christina Freese sparked Grayslake North (15-6) coming off the bench, coach Jim Sarver said. Joanna Guhl and Freese had 10 and 8 points, respectively, for the Knights. Jordyn Bowen contributed 8 points and 6 rebounds.

Lakes (10-12), which had won three in a row, received 11 points from Therese McMahon and 10 from Ashlee Cunningham.

“We showed some really bad defense tonight,” said coach Pete Schneider, whosae Eagles play again tonight when they visit North Chiago. “Grayslake exploited our younger players’ weaknesses, as they did a good job attacking the rim. We will learn from the experience.”

Grayslake Central 51, Woodstock 13: Claire Brennan scored 13 points, and Beth Arnold added 10, as the visiting Rams remained undefeated in the Fox Valley Fox Division.

Grayslake Central (17-4, 7-0) led 18-4 after one quarter and 24-7 at halftime.
