Durrett, Lake Forest edge Lake Zurich
Thomas Durrett scored 21 points, and Lake Forest's boys basketball team overcame a fourth-quarter deficit to edge visiting Lake Zurich 58-53 Friday night.
Lake Forest improved to 7-7 and 2-3 in the NSC Lake, while dropping Lake Zurich to 11-9 and 2-4.
Lake Zurich led 8-14 after one quarter and 35-31 at halftime after the Scouts' Ben Simpson hit a 3-pointer at buzzer.
Lake Zurich was still up 44-40 after three.
"We led the whole game and played well for 30 minutes, but mentally we just fell asleep the last two minutes on both ends," Bears coach Billy Pitcher said.
Lake Zurich was leading 50-48 with two minutes left.
"But we left Durrett, their best shooter, open twice for 5 straight points," Pitcher said.
Mirko Grcic, who led Lake Zurich with 23 points and 10 rebounds, answered with a 3-point play to tie it at 52-52.
But a driving layup by John Hayes put Lake Forest back in front. The Scouts made 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch to ice their second straight win in NSC Lake play.
