Collins takes command for Barrington

Nicole Collins enjoyed one of her biggest scoring games of the season as Barrington captured a 46-40 nonconference victory at Huntley on Tuesday night.

The 5-foot-9 senior guard tossed home a game-high 20 points, converting 6 field goals and 8 of 10 free throws. She also collected 5 steals with 2 assists. Abby Taplett added 7 points for the winners.

"Nicole had a nice game," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "She had some baskets at key moments and big steals early on."

Junior forward Maddie Bartz had 6 rebounds and senior forward Samantha Carman pulled down 5 for the Fillies, who jumped head 13-4 after one quarter.

The Red Raiders, led by Sam Andrews (team-high 17 points, 8 rebounds) and Abbey Shaw (14 points, 8 rebounds), dropped to 10-6.

"It was a physical game and Huntley defensively is a very good team," Barreiro added. "Their defense is very solid. You have to work hard for every point you get."

The Fillies have been working without sophomore Angie Kirchoff (ankle) and their first player off the bench, senior Brooke Fanslow (bruised meniscus).

Carman started in place of Alexa Resch, who had been ill and came into the game as a reserve.

"Our team defense was pretty effective overall," Barreiro said. "I thought the kids communicated pretty well."

Barreiro hopes to have Kirchoff and Fanslow back on Friday when the Fillies (8-11, 2-2) visit Mid-Suburban West leader Fremd (15-3, 4-0) to complete the first half of divisional play.

Conant 32, Addison Trail 29: Senior Natalie Kutrumanes (9 points), sophomore Sarah Mazurek (9 points) and senior Allie Bauch (8) led the Cougars in the nonconference game in Hoffman Estates.

Mazurek tossed home 3 3-pointers while Bauch had one for the Cougars (5-13).

Bartlett 58, Palatine 45: Sophomore guard Nia Pappas tossed home a team-high 16 points with 4 3-pointers for the visiting Pirates (11-8) in the nonconference game against the Daily Herald's top-ranked team.

Other top scorers for Palatine were senior Laura Schweikert (7 points), junior McKenzie Wiedemann (6) and freshman Monica Masini (6).

The top-ranked Hawks (20-0) remained undefeated as they jumped out to a 30-17 halftime lead.

Haley Videckis (22 points, 11 rebounds) led the Hawks with a double-double while Kristin Conniff (17 points) and Katie Gutzwiler (10 points) added double-digit scoring to go along with 5 rebounds apiece.
