Balanced effort lifts Schaumburg

A balanced scoring attack helped lead Schaumburg's girls basketball team into today's consolation championship of the 28th annual Bill Neibch Falcon Classic at Wheaton North.

Junior Amanda Kelly (14 points), freshman Jada Blackwell (12), senior Alyssa Saklak (9), senior Kelly Skorczewski (8), senior Jenna Gerber (8) and junior Riley Williams (7) helped lead the way in the Saxons' 60-46 triumph over Hinsdale Central.

Coach Ashley Berggren's squad (6-9) will face Jacobs at 3 p.m. today.

Barrington 43, Wheaton St. Francis 23: All-tourney selection Nicole Collins had 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals while teammate Alexa Resch grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds with 7 points and 3 steals as the Fillies (6-10), 1-4) completed play in the Suburban Holiday Showcase at Loyola.

Abby Taplett added 7 points while teammates Katherine Sodeika and Maddie Bartz had 6 apiece.

"Alexa did a really nice defensive job inside," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "And we played nice team defense."

Senior forward Brooke Fanslow pulled down 5 rebounds.

"Our offensive execution and intensity were better (than Tuesday against Lake Zurich)," said Barreiro, who expects sophomore Angie Kirchoff and senior Natasha Singh to return from ankle injuries sometime next week.

Hoffman Estates 51, Thornton Fractional South 35: Becca Stoczynski (16 points), Sara Burns (15) and Destinee Young (12) led Hoffman Estates (5-8) in the quarterfinals of the eight-team Boilermaker Tournament at Bradley-Bourbannais High School.

Christian Liberty 42, Woodstock JV 31: Megan Sullivan led the Chargers (8-4) with 15 points in the second round of the Alden-Hebron Tournament.

Shelbi Hernandez added 8 points while Jess Moriarty had 7 and Jayna Rowland 6.

Sullivan, Moriarty and Vivian Barclay each had a 3-pointer.

Naperville Central 63, Prospect 54: Junior guard Michele Molini (17 points) and senior guard Adriane Falagario (12) led the Knights (10-6), who will face Resurrection for 11th place at 12:30 p.m. today at the Charger Classic at Dundee-Crown High School.

Evanston 49, Maine West 33: Sophomore Brittany Collins paced Maine West (4-12) with 15 points in the consolation game. The Warriors will face Buffalo Grove (3-11) today at 3:30 p.m. for seventh place at the Charger Classic at Dundee Crown.

Hononegah 56, Buffalo Grove 38: Bailey North (18 points) and Emily Cho (10) led the Bison in the consolation game at the Charger Classic at Dundee Crown.

BG (3-11) will face Maine West (4-12) today at 3:30 p.m. for seventh place.
