Kemph, Rolling Meadows make it a historic start
It was a history-making day for the Rolling Meadows girls basketball team on Saturday.
With a 56-32 win over Highland Park in the quarterfinals of the Lady Mustangs Holiday Classic at Mundelein High School, Meadows is off to its best start in school history.
The Mustangs (10-3) will meet Cary-Grove (8-3) in the semifinals on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
Sophomore guard Jackie Kemph (2 3-pointers) scored 27 points, 2 shy of her career-high, while classmate Jenny Vliet added 11 and senior Anne Marie Lynch 6. Vliet and Amanda Gunn also tossed home 3-pointers for Meadows.
Kemph has 97 points in her last four games.
The Mustangs pulled away to a 30-16 lead at half.
Giants junior standout Lena Munzer scored 22 points, including 3 3-pointers. The Giants (7-7) committed 27 turnovers and shot 30 percent from the floor.
Hoffman Estates 43, Conant 26: Junior Destinee Young fired home 24 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Hoffman Estates advanced to the consolation semifinals of the Lady Mustangs Holiday Classic at Mundelein High School.
Becca Stoczynski added 9 points and 7 rebounds for the Hawks.
Teammates Mary Pettit made 3 steals and Sara Burns 2 for the winners.
Hoffman (2-8) will face Waukegan at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Conant (4-10) meets Streamwood on Monday at 6 p.m.
Glenbrook South 38, Hersey 35 (OT): Seniors Maggie Hogen (14 points) and Jen Hall (11) were top scorers for Hersey (4-7) in the nonconference game at the Ken Carter Gymnasium in Arlington Heights
Hogen hit a 3-pointer in the overtime and Renee Poulos had the other bucket for the host Huskies, who were outscored 8-5.
Coach Mary Fendley’s club will resume play on Dec. 26 when is attempts to defend the title of the Bill Neibch Falcon Classic at Wheaton North High School.
The No. 3-seeded Huskies open at 9 a.m. against Willowbrook.
Glenbrook South (9-4) is also at Wheaton North. The Titans are the No. 2 seed behind No. 1 Waubonsie Valley.
