Alice Krieger of Elgin celebrates her 100th birthday on Friday, December 2. Krieger, a resident of Center City Apartments, had a party thrown for her by family and friends. About 25 people attended. She has lived at the apartment building for the past 15 years, unassisted and in good health. She is described by many as being like the Energizer Bunny.

As light rain fell 2,000 plus runners ran the 5K Rotary Santa Run in Arlington Heights on Saturday, December 3rd. The run and one-mile walk was sponsored by the Arlington Heights Rotary Club with proceeds benefiting local community projects.

Wheeling firefighter Jim Theobald gets a handful of handmade teddy bears from Pinky Wennerstrom of Wheeling, as crafters from Wheeling Pavilion Senior Center presented ten teddy bears they made to the Wheeling Fire Department, on Tuesday, December 6th. Each bear took five-hours to handcraft and includes TLC, said Jan Christiansen, social worker with Village of Wheeling. The firefighters will handout the bears to children riding in an ambulance to a hospital, said Christiansen.

World War II veterans were escorted into and out of East Aurora High School by members of the Navy JROTC, for the Day of Honor event at the school, Tuesday. The event coincides with 70th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941, that drew the United States into World War II.

Maximus James, 11 months, of Bartlett sizes up Santa at Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin on Tuesday, December 6. Moments later, Maximus let out a scream. The hospital hosted their 15th annual Caroling and Caring, which also included readings of Christmas books and cookies.
