Vernon Hills rolls to victory
Sydney Smith had 16 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 4 blocks, leading Vernon Hills' girls basketball team to a 67-24 win over host North Chicago in a North Suburban Prairie Division game Wednesday night.
Meri Bennett-Swanson added 14 points and 5 rebounds, and Lauren Webb contributed 8 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.
Webb sparked Vernon Hills (7-1, 3-0) in the second quarter, scoring 6 points, including a 3-pointer, to stretch a 13-6 lead after one quarter to 35-14 by halftime.
"When Lauren Webb got us going, it really gave the team a big burst of energy," Cougars coach Paul Brettner said. "She really gave us the shot we needed."
Mady Roberts tallied 9 points for Vernon Hills.
North Chicago got 10 points from Darniqua Hood.
Warren 61, Mundelein 43: Lexi Leneau scored 21 of her career-high 28 points in the second half to lead the Blue Devils to the North Suburban Lake Division win.
Warren (3-4, 1-1) also got 12 points apiece from Alyssa Phillips and Jessica Prince. Amanda Barger had 9 points, 9 assists and 5 steals for the Blue Devils.
Mundelein (3-5, 1-2) was paced by Becca Woit's 13 points and Natalie Busscher's 8.
Wauconda 33, Round Lake 20: The Bulldogs snapped a four-game losing streak, as Diana Enriquez scored a game-high 11 points to go along with 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals in the North Suburban Prairie contest.
Wauconda (3-4, 1-2) also received 7 points and 5 rebounds from Jessie Wood. Lexie Redmann had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals, while Chavez Coombs contributed 4 points, 8 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks.
Adriana Pitts had 7 points for Round Lake (3-6, 0-3).
Fenwick 61, Carmel 41: Kathleen Felicelli and Sarah McHugh each scored 9 points for the Corsairs in their East Suburban Catholic Conference opener.
Kaitlyn Lynch scored 7 points for Carmel (5-3, 0-1).
